Summary of Duties and       Responsibilities
The Seed Science Center in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University is seeking applications for a Seed Analyst I.

The primary responsibilities of this position are classifying seeds and/or seedlings in several germination-related tests; initiating tests by preparing planting media, imbibing or planting seeds, or otherwise working with seeds; assisting in training students and temporary workers and in assigning and checking their work.

The successful candidate has knowledge of AOSA Rules for Testing Seeds and other related publications and of seed morphology, physiology, and early growth characteristics of various species of seed. The ability to examine and manipulate small and large seedlings is essential for this position, as well as excellent time management and organizational skills.

Required Qualifications High school graduation plus one year of work experience or an equivalent combination of post high school education and work experience from which one can acquire knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment and terminology and/or knowledge of various kinds of agricultural seeds.

  • Experience working in a laboratory.
  • Experience initiating and evaluating various germination tests in a seed laboratory.
  • Experience in areas of seed testing in addition to germination testing
